In retrospection: My time at school

At school I was always the high-achiever ; although I seldom worked hard at my studies. There were occasions when I wouldn't feel like doing the work I was supposed to do, did it half-heartedly, and still received a 'Well done!’ comment from the teacher. One such incident from kindergarten is still fresh in my mind. The class was doing a Picture Composition - a  writing activity which required us to write and draw about a picture of a seal performing in a circus; taped to the blackboard. I happened to be in a bad mood, and purposely gave my worst to the task; making sure I coloured outside the lines in the picture I drew. However, to the teacher it was quite satisfactory, and I got a smiley-face for it. This was one of the first impressions the school gave me: you had to satisfy the teacher, your own standards of satisfaction were irrelevant and unimportant. Although I was mostly a very obedient student, bitter experiences happened to me as well, some of which still stick...

an evolution story

When I was three years old, I told people, “ When I grow up, I’m gonna be a bear .” At age five, I realised that wasn’t quite possible. By the time I turned seven, I had decided I wanted to be a scuba diver/ whale trainer when I grew up, influenced by a video of one I had seen at school. I read books on whales, dreamt of dolphins, and could almost see sharks swimming about in the swimming pool. However, at age ten, I became aware of the fact that I wasn’t brave enough to train whales or swim with sharks, and that it was safer to become a writer. I was already capable of writing poems and devouring large numbers of stories; it wouldn’t be too difficult. At twelve, I felt that my essays didn’t sound nearly as good as my paintings looked, and I was determined I could become an artist when I became an adult. But at thirteen, looking at some of Sadequain’s spectacular murals properly for the first time, I realized my works could never be good enough to be called an artist. Toda...

Poem~Artificial and Natural

They are not 'twinkling stars' we see, they are the satellites, It is all only god's earth, but still for rights we fight. The fertilizer laid on ground is mistaken for soil, It is the whole in ozone layer, not sun, for why we boil. Light bulbs can never replace:elegance of the moon, Heaters can not provide:warmth of afternoon. Dyed hair never looked good, everyone does it, all the same, Glamour makes you forget; meaning of life, the aim. People sometimes forget: artificial means unreal, Artificial only looks good, nature is good in real.

Qualities of a Good and Creative Thinker

5 Qualities A Good Thinker should have. A Good Thinker….. 1.      Should be Curious about how things work. A good thinker should be curious about how things work-would want to learn and research more about things that interest him/her and those that he/she knows less about. 2.      Should listen to other’s opinions and value them to o. If we believe that we are the most creative and the best thinker of them all, This would be very wrong and selfish. A good thinker should learn that other’s opinions and other’s knowledge could be more advanced and better than him/herself. 3.      Should be positive and proactive . A good thinker should be positive about things and should think about positive and should be proactive. Being negative and reactive aren’t good signs of a Good Thinker. 4.      Should think on things worth thinking . If I start to wonder how to drive a car, this wouldn’t be...

Review: The first session of Thinker's Club.

We have started a Thinker's Club or 'Halqa e Ghor o fikr' in Urdu. Over there we think about several issues and discuss what we should think about and what are we thinking. The first session took place in ERDC,3rd August,Sunday,2014. Here's a report that I wrote about it. If you're interested, please view this link to view the Thinker's Club Website: thinkersclubonline.blogspot.com . Here's the review: Today was the first session of our Thinker's Club. We had invited several kids, and finally,14 kids turned up. First we all introduced our selves and told 3 things about our self. Afterwards,we discussed lots of things like What's the most important topic to think about?  and Is there any question that you wondered about but you couldn't get the answer? or Is there any thing that you thought about but you didn't ask about it because you thought it was a really silly  question? Then we were divided equally in two groups and we thought up que...

Introverts & Extroverts.

Introverts and Extroverts are two types of people found in our environment. Nobody is a full extrovert or introvert. Extroverts are people who like to express their ideas in public. They usually participate in class, and are likely to answer almost every question asked, whether they know the right answer or not. These people are likely to be called foul names like 'Chatterbox' or 'Loudmouth' which is mean because that is making fun of a person's nature.  On the other hand, Introverts are quiet people who 'keep their ideas locked in their brains and throw the key away'. They process their thoughts in their brains and don't share their ideas with people. An Introvert might express his/her ideas with a friend or a close relative, but might not tell everyone what they think. Introverts are quiet people, but it doesn't mean that they can't be great. Introverts are wonderful people and are usually more mature. I'm not sure what I am, but I think ...
