Writing and handwriting: Which matters the most

In the 21st century, handwriting is given almost as much importance as writing. If schools are preparing kids for the future, well, then, in the future, there will be no such thing as writing on paper. Handwriting is useless. There's no point in spending precious hours of time writing letters in neat, small, handwriting. It is said that writing should be done for yourself, not others.Well, then handwriting is done for others, not yourself!!Handwriting should be understandable, that's all.

If Parents, Schools, and Teachers keep telling kids how their handwriting should be, and what they've done wrong, then kids will start focusing on their handwriting, too, and forget about writing, which matters more. For example, If  kids who have good writing, but not so good handwriting, are badgered so much about their handwriting, then he'll start focusing on handwriting, not writing.

If you ask a group of people, to write a single letter of the alphabet on a piece of paper, and then compare the results, you won't find 2 such people who write the same letter the exact same way, even though all of them have been through the same system of schooling.
Practicing handwriting is stupidity, when you know that everyone can't write the same thing, the same way!

  1. A very important point, Zainab! You're right. But when we do fair work, to be submitted somewhere, etc. our handwriting should be neat. The difference between handwriting and writing is kinda like the difference between inner and outer beauty, don't you think?

You're right, fair work should be submitted in good handwriting.
I was thinking too of sharing the inner and outer beauty point, but maybe it slipped out of my mind. We as sisters think alike!

  2. I totally agree with you! In primary school, especially, they used to go on and on and on about having neat writing, but not about doing the writing itself. You're right; handwriting should be readable, but not absolutely perfect, because in literacy, learning how to make your handwriting neat is pretty much like doing art in your literacy lesson. XD Usually, you'll need to write fast too. I usually only write neatly when it's for something special; if it's going to be on display or a letter/card for a friend, for example.

  3. Of course WRITING matters most. But yes we should learn to present it in beautiful and decent handwriting form. Handwriting adds persona to the content (writing) and conveys to the reader how you feel about the text and the potential readers of your writing.
