Book Review: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Image
To Kill a Mockingbird is a famous American classic, and although I had heard about it several times before and it had been lying on my bedroom bookshelf for more than a couple of years now, I happened to read it only last week. Although I had opened the book a few times previously as well with the intention of reading it; the beginning didn't seem very hooking, so I didn't feel motivated to continue. But - quite contrary to my expectations - when I read it, I discovered that the book  was 'my type', and quite interesting. (I was suffering from a terrible toothache then, and while reading this book I was actually able to distract myself from the pain!) The day I finished reading it, I decided that this was one book that deserved to be reviewed (and also that I had to get my hands on its sequel, Go Set a Watchman ). So here is the review I wrote. :) ---- Book: To Kill a Mockingbird Author: Harper Lee Length: 281 pages Publisher: Warner Books Ye...

What I'm reading this spring

Image
Hi Readers, and Welcome back! I’m really sorry for not being able to post for the past two months (I do aim to post more often and regularly in the future, though.) Anyways, spring is just around the corner and so I decided to share with you guys what I’m reading this spring!             1.  How to Make Money using Etsy :        A guide to the online Marketplace for Crafts and Handmade Products Author: Timothy Adams Publisher: John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Length: 222 pages ISBN: 978-0-470-94456-1 I found this book at a local library. Ever since we’ve started our own  small business, Clayholds ( www.clayholds.blogspot.com/ ), I’m often finding books on business and making money whenever we visit the library. However, unlike some of the books I’ve found on business, How to Make Money using Etsy is quite an interesting read and gives you practical tips on how you can set up your shop on Etsy. The book isn’t at...

Book Review: Our Iceberg is Melting: Changing and Succeeding under any Conditions

Image
'Our Iceberg Is Melting’ sounds like a book on global warming, but surprisingly, as I discovered when I started reading, it is not. It is about changing and striving for better. The book is written like a fable by two change specialists and is a fun but meaningful read. The authors have brilliantly crafted a plot to embed their wisdom and insights on change. The first author, John P. Kotter is a leadership and change guru at Harvard. He has written over 20 honored books some of which are bestsellers. Holger Rathgeber, the co-author, has a vast experience of working with organizations to help them implement the strategies of change. The story is about a colony of penguins living on a huge iceberg in Antarctica. The Iceberg had been there for a long time and the penguins believed that it would last forever. The iceberg is surrounded by sea rich in food and shelter to protect them from storms. Among the two hundred and sixty eight penguins, Fred is an unusually observant penguin ...

A Game worth playing: Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt is a game which involves some thinking as well as physical activity. Although it is not so popular, but it is loved by most kids. Try it out with Younger siblings or cousins. Initially, I knew how to play Treasure Hunt but we rarely played it. I tried it with my younger cousin and brother once, and they really enjoyed it(probably because the treasure was sweets!) I discovered two ways of playing this game-with a map and with clues. Here's how you can play Treasure Hunt; What You Need: -A pen -Paper -Treasure(could be anything, like sweets or balloons or stickers. Even a glass of juice would do.) -Kids(preferably 1-4) How to prepare the game: -Choose how you want to play it-map or clues? -For a map, take a paper and draw on it the map of your house or park, wherever you're playing. Make a 'Key' for what represents what. Add the treasure in the key. Draw the treasure in the map in lots of places. -For clues, take small r...

The Japanese Emperor, who is in under of the Prime Minister,Omura, wants a new army so he asks the American government to send them someone who can train their new army,so the american send an expert Military officer, Algren to train their new army. Algren is to teach the new army to use weapons,(firearms, pistols, cannons) as the Japanese are new to weapons. The king has decided that the first task for the new army will be to destroy the Samurai, because now they have the new army, there is no need of the Samurai.  One day, some ministers, send by the Emperor, come and tell Algren that the king  has ordered that tomorrow the new army will have the first battle with the Samurai. Algren explains them that they aren't ready and ev...
